During the wedding season, I also photograph many "couples portrait sessions," as I call them. However, if you search Google, you will see these come under many names, such as pre wedding photography, proposal photography, and engagement photos. All these names don't reflect the reality of where my couples are. Some are engaged, some are not, and some have been married for a while. Ultimately, it doesn't matter; it's just a time to have fun together and celebrate your love just where you are. Typically, location-wise, it's somewhere that has some meaning for you both.
In Tom and Grace's photography session, we were literally creating "engagement photos", as Tom planned to propose. I have had a few actual proposal sessions this year. I hadn't taken on ones before because maybe they scared me that they might say "no," hehe. Fortunately, Tom and Grace and my other couple, Noah and Jessie, both said yes. Few!!!
Both of these shoots weren't just about the wedding proposal. Both Tom and Noah wanted to continue after the initial proposal and create some photos with the exciting energy hopefully flowing. This sat well with how I like to take pictures of my couples in a relaxed, organic, intimate way. Nothing staged, just couples having fun and being themselves.
Like many of my couples, Tom and Grace were from the USA like Elise and Evan. They had come for a holiday and planned to move on to the Cotswolds after fun in London. We were lucky with the beautiful May sun and fantastic light. All the plants and fresh foliage in Hyde Park still had the zing and delicacy of new spring growth. A beautiful and appropriate backdrop for their exciting new future ahead of them.
Due to Tom's nervousness, we decided to start early in the morning. As you can imagine, getting someone to a location is challenging without giving the game away, lol. So, we began a bit later than planned, but it all turned out well. I managed to capture the moment Tom proposed without Grace noticing me. Spoiler alert... she said yes! It's safe to say she was very shocked but incredibly happy!
Kind Words
